The Bead Soup Blog Party is the creation of Lori Anderson of Pretty Things. In a nutshell, those that choose to participate are paired with other beaders, generally with opposite styles. Each pair swaps a set of beads, mainly a focal and a clasp, and has a month or so to create what they will using what they were sent along with items from their own collection. At the end of it all, there's a huge reveal day and blog hop as participants visit blog after blog to marvel at everyone's creations.
I was one of the more industrious participants... I finished a total of four necklaces using almost everything my partner CJ sent me, plus a good bit of my own beads.
Long and windy, I know, but it's just a part of what makes some of my listings so special. I am listing them on Etsy, ranging from $40-$50. When I sell all four, 100% of the profits will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Now, being from other parts of the country, or world, you may not know who Kay Yow was and why she is so important.
Kay Yow was the women's basketball coach at North Carolina State University for, forever as far as I'm concerned. I will be 34 years old in May, and up until her death from breast cancer in 2009, she was the ONLY women's coach I had ever known. She is a legend, and is still greatly missed by the entire NCSU community, including myself, an alumna, Class of 2005.
