It's that time...

What is a Bead Soup Blog Party?  Only the coolest thing EVER, and all put together by one woman:  Lori Anderson of Pretty Things

Each of us were given a partner and a few simple rules.  In the soup we were to send had to include a focal bead, a clasp other than an ordinary lobster claw, and some complimenting beads.  But the only things we had to use were the focal bead and clasp.

This is what I started with, provided by my partner CJ Bauschka:

Here's what I made with it, and I'll tell you, I got a little carried away.

Piece #1 Suzy Sells Seashells - Three beads and a cap combine in the form of a person.  This is Suzy.  The seashells she sells are the mother-of-pearl beads that combine with Swarovski crystal and white stripped beads.

Piece #2 Garden Goddess - Aventurine combined with copper and sterling silver.

Piece #3 Crystal Illusion - Two sizes of Swarovski crystal in six differing shades form the illusion of the crystals floating around your neck

Piece#4 - Cafe Vienna - my centerpiece - Silver and copper; Bronzite and Carnelian and Tiger's Eye; Chocolate and orange.  An asymmetrical combination of stone and metal.

I actually choose to name this piece Cafe Vienna after a drink of the same name from my favorite coffee shop when I was in college.  A place called Global Village.  See, what they call a Cafe Vienna is none other than an orange mocha.  Here are views of this particular piece from different angles:

the focals
the clasp

I realize now that I left an important part out of my soup.  A couple weeks back, I blogged about what was to become of the pieces I have made.  In case you missed it,  I'm going to put them on Ebay and try to sell them.  Yeah I know, I could do that on Etsy, but there's a twist.  100% of the profit that comes from those sales will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, part of the Jimmy V Foundation.                           updated 2/26 2:30 pm

Check out what the rest of us made:
